  • The objective of the Directorate is to inculcate in the Youth the spirit of contributing positively to the progress and greatness of the country through well designed programmes, seminars, conferences, debates and workshops. There are 35 Youth Centres/Playgrounds in the State.

    Activities of the Department are carried out through four units, namely:

    • Programme Planning
    • Youth Centres and Open spaces
    • Voluntary Organizations and Field Services
    • Youth Development


    1 IBILE YOUTH ACADEMY – Enters the second session this year.

    2 National Youth Council of Nigeria Lagos Branch – The Ministry has given the organization a window of opportunity to go and reconcile its factions before any relationship can be re-established.

    3 Youth Economic Empowerment Scheme – Vocational training, the flag off is scheduled for 5th February, 2018 while Orientation programme will be on 5th and 6th February, 2018. The training will take place in the following centres

    a. Onikan Youth Centre - Make over

    b. Mushin Youth Centre – Make over

    c. Ikorodu Youth Centre – Catering

    d. Ayobo Youth Centre – Shoemaking

    e. Obele Oniwala Youth Centre – Shoemaking

    f. Otto Awori Youth Centre – Tailoring

    g. Akinwunmi Youth Centre – Tailoring

    h. Gbagada Youth Centre – Catering


Programme Planning Unit (Mr. Saka Abdulateef)

The unit is responsible for facilitating, planning, implementing and evaluation of Youth Development Programmes on issues that affect the youth such as unemployment and under-employment, poor education, breakdown of family values, indiscipline, moral decadence in the society, dearth of appropriate role models, religious and political conflict in line with the State Youth policy. The programmes are determined by socio-economic and political realities existing in the country, global trend and best practices.
They include the following:

  1. International Youth Day Celebration
  2. Youth Citizenship and Leadership Training – IBILE Youth Academy (IYA) & Lagos State Youth Parliament.
  3. Youth Vocational Training
  4. Youth Entrepreneurship Development
  5. Youth Exchange Programme
  6. Youth Fair & Festival
  7. Youth Award Programmes
  8. Youth Camping Programme

Life Skills Programmes to build the capacity of the youth to address issues such as: 

  1. I. Teenage pregnancy
  2. II. Drug Abuse
  3. III. HIV and AIDS
  4. IV. Leadership
  5. V. Prostitution
  6. VI. Reproductive & Sexual Health
  7. VII. Anti Crime Campaign
  8. VIII. Participation in Decision making


Youth Centres & Open Spaces Unit (Mr. Olukosi Julius Folasayo)

The State Government has 1 Youth Hostel, 33 Youth Centres and 3 Playgrounds across the state.

A Youth Centre is a One Stop facility that serves as a meeting place for young people to access information and resources critical to youth-led development programmes and projects. It also provides an enabling environment for recreation. When the youth are kept busy, their minds are diverted from crimes and other anti-social activities.

This unit is responsible for the following:

    Identifying public open spaces for development into Youth Centres in line with Lagos State Open Spaces Policy.
    • Monitoring and supervision of activities at Youth Centres and Playground
    • Maintenance of the Youth Centres
    • Management and maintenance of Ipaja Youth Hostel

    Voluntary Organizations and Field Services Unit (Mrs. Taiwo F. M )

    The unit is responsible for:

    1. I. The registration of Youth Focused Voluntary Organization and Non-Governmental Organization.

    ii. Monitoring and coordinating of activities of uniformed and non-uniformed voluntary youth organizations;
    iii. Coordinating and monitoring of Zonal Officers and Offices

    Youth Development Unit (Mr. Ogunleye K. A )

    The unit is responsible for:

    1. i.              State Youth Development Policy formation, interpretation and articulation.
      ii.             Providing statistical reports for improved service delivery.
      iii.            Building a well organized database for proper coordination of youth development activities at the zonal level.
      iv.            Coordination of activities of various divisions of the Youth Department

As a line ministry, the Youth Development Department represents MYSD in the committee
